BOCA Film

  • DETAILS

1. BOCA film’s main raw material is cellulose, a natural and renewable resource which is sourced only from managed forestry.

2. BOCA solvent cast cellulose diacetate film is a well-established versatile product, which is sold throughout the world.

2. It can be cemented or solvent welded to itself or other materials and also high frequency welded. In addition, the film can be adhesive laminated to paper and board. Once laminated, it can be further printed or foil blocked, generally without pre-treatment.

Application:

Window Cartons

BOCA film is cellulose-based and reacts to moisture-vapour in a similar way to paper and board. This means that, unlike some oil-based plastic films, windows of BOCA film patched over the carton aperture keep the flat appearance so important to a retail sales pack. The film has good adhesion to standard carton boards.

The crystal clarity of BOCA film, as well as its suitability for window patching by high-speed machinery, makes the film the leader in the field. It has excellent machineability and cutting properties. The range of goods being sold around the world in BOCA film window cartons is vast.

BOCA film Y17 and Y24 conform to US FDA Regulations. Y17 film is especially used in America for the packaging of food such as pasta and bakery goods. Y17 film also meets all EC Directives relating to plastics intended to come into contact with foodstuffs. The thicker Y24 grades have also been shown to meet EC requirements for direct food contact. BOCA film has excellent moisture permeability, and this “breathability” minimises the risk of fogging in chilled display cabinets.

Lamination

BOCA film can be laminated to printed paper and board by means of solvent or water-based adhesives. The film's superb clarity, high gloss surface and excellent stability combine to enhance and protect all kinds of print. BOCA film laminated print starts brighter and lasts longer.

In addition to traditional high gloss film, BOCA film now boasts a range of other surface finishes for the print lamination industry. Examples of print being laminated with BOCA film include: perfume cartons, sales brochures, greetings cards, company reports, book jackets, calendars, menus and music CDs.

Acetate laminated cartons cut, crease and glue with ease. BOCA film laminated cartons can also be readily foil blocked, ensuring a prestigious finish to the packaging.

Pressure Sensitive Tapes

A very large and important use for BOCA film is in the production of pressure sensitive mending tapes. These tapes become virtually invisible when applied to the end product and are receptive to pen and pencil markings. It is supplied to major tape manufacturers in North and South America, Europe, the Far East and Australasia. Acetate invisible tape provides inherent “easy tear” characteristics to ensure ease of dispensing.

Labels

World-wide manufacturers of pressure sensitive labels value BOCA film for its print and protective properties and its ability to accept a wide variety of printing processes. The film's tear characteristics are such that it makes it suitable for the production of security labels, as well as “tamper-evident” seals and labels. It excels in its ease of conversion and dispensing properties. A specially modified product, Integuard, has been developed specifically for security applications.

BOCA film is suitable for adhesive coating on either or both sides without pre-treatment. It also retains its high clarity after being applied to the substrate surface.

The film is easily die-cut into a variety of shapes and sizes to produce not only informative “price” or “size” labels, but also attractive colourful decorations for articles such as children's toys.

A major use in the USA is for the lamination of instantly redeemable special offer labels. In this system the top label of the product is easily removed to claim a refund at the store checkout, leaving the customer with a non-sticky, unspoilt pack.

Coloured BOCA film

BOCA film is available in a range of colours subject to minimum order requirements.

Printing

BOCA film is suitable for use with most the standard printing processes. The film's high quality surface, inherently high surface energy, and gauge consistency make it an ideal material for letterpress, flexographic, gravure, lithography and silk screen printing. The films also accept foil blocking/hot stamping well. BOCA films can also be printed by non- impact printing techniques.

By reverse printing, it will give added depth to colours and the toughness of the film protects the print from scuffing.

Typical of the applications for printed BOCA film are labels, laminated labels, point-of-sale display, box lids, greetings cards, laminated folding cartons and exploded diagrams.
